St. Aug Victorious In Two Events at Penn State National Indoor Meet

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Burkheart Ellis, Jr. (Fr./Raleigh, N.C.) and the men's 4x400 relay team were winners at the Penn State National Invitational indoor track and field meet this past weekend. The meet was held at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track Facility on Jan. 25-26, 2013.
 
Ellis captured the men's 400 meter dash in 48.71 seconds. He finished ahead of teammate Elhadji Mbow, who claimed second place in 49.05.
 
Ellis also helped the Falcons win the JoePa Invitational men's 4x400 meter relay. He, along with Josh Edmonds (Jr./Jacksonville, Fla.), James Quarles (Jr./Washington, D.C.) and Dane Hyatt (Jr./Goodwill, Jamaica), ran a time of 3:09.46 to defeat Pittsburgh and Hampton.
 
In other men's events, Hyatt finished second in 21.25 and Jermaine Jones (Fr./Wilmington, N.C.) was fourth in 21.43 in the 200 dash Invitational. The men's 4x200 relay team of Edmonds, Ellis, Jones and Hyatt was second in 1:25.67. Anaquan Peterson finished third (50-7.50) and DeJon Wilkinson (Jr./Summerville, S.C.) was fourth (50-6.75) in the triple jump.
 
Jameel Walcott (Jr./Trinidad & Tobago) placed fourth in the 800 run in 1:53.25, and Moussa Dembele placed fourth in the 60 hurdles in 7.91. Eddie Shelton (Jr./Deltona, Fla.) finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 6-10.25, and DeJon Wilkinson placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 23-6.25. Jones was seventh in the 60 dash in 6.94, and JaQuan Demiel (So./Suffolk, Va.) was ninth in the long jump with a leap of 22-9.75. Akido Noel (Fr./Phoenix, Ariz.) was ninth in the 500 dash in 1:06.33, and Quarles was 10th in the 400 dash Invitational in 48.71.
 
The men's distance medley relay team was sixth in the Invitational in 10:06.38. The members consisted of Torion Bailey (Fr./Compton, Calif.), Mbow, Walcott and Marcelis Lynch (Sr./Stone Mountain, Ga.).
 
Among the women, the 4x400 relay team was third in the event, named the JoePa Invitational. The group of Zikeena Parker, Brittany Brown, Sherri-Ann Ashman (So./Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Kelly Shaw (So./Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) finished in 3:45.03.
 
Brown was fifth in the 400 dash in 56.94 and Nicketa Bernard (Jr./Westmoreland, Jamaica) was tied for sixth in the event in 56.96. Shaw was sixth in the 400 dash Invitational in 55.62, and Skyler Wallen was ninth in the 800 run in 2:17.35.
